A Minnesota Family Reunion Resort on Big Sand Lake
Pine Cone Lodge is a Minnesota family reunion resort on Big Sand Lake, a peaceful lakeside retreat designed for families and groups who want to stay together, cook together, and make memories together. Located in a quiet bay on crystal-clear Big Sand Lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota, our resort offers a mix of modern, comfortable cabins and a newly rebuilt Lodge perfect for hosting gatherings of 2 to 80 guests.
Pine Cone Lodge is uniquely located between two beautiful lakes. To the north is Big Sand Lake, one of the premier recreational and fishing lakes in Hubbard County and all of Minnesota. This spring-fed, sand-bottom lake features 600 feet of sandy shoreline, ideal for swimming, boating, and fishing for walleye and northern pike. The gentle, gradual drop-off is perfect for kids and families.
To the south is Loon (Thomas) Lake, a peaceful environmental lake known for its quiet water and excellent bass and panfish fishing. Together, the two lakes surround Pine Cone Lodge with natural beauty, offering 2000 feet of lakeshore across 5–6 wooded acres.
Whether you’re planning a family reunion, retreat, celebration, or a quiet seasonal getaway, Pine Cone Lodge brings people together in a setting filled with nature, history, and warmth. It is truly a special place all year round.
Pine Cone Lodge was the perfect place to spend a beautiful fall weekend and a much needed getaway! We explored the area by biking on Heartland Trail and hiking in Paul Bunyan State Forest. We enjoyed shopping in Park Rapids, Nevis and Walker as well as trying out some local restaurants and brewery's. Of all the places we visited, Pine Cone Lodge was our favorite! We stayed in Cedar Cabin and it was perfect. It was quiet, clean, and very cozy. The main lodge was also beautifully redone with a homelike feel. So many personal touches throughout! It truly was a home away from home! Thank you for a great weekend! We will definitely recommend to others and look forward to staying again!

Spent an amazing weekend with 2 of my daughters, sunrise views were stunning and the cabin was impeccably decorated and clean. Best night's sleep I've had in a very long time.

We took a mini vacation up north and stayed at the Pine Cone Lodge in the Cedar Cabin. It was very beautiful, modern, clean and comfortable all for a great price! Our host, Bonnie, was very nice and attentive to our needs. The view of the lake from inside and outside of our cabin was absolutely beautiful! The only downside we experienced was being able to hear the little feet running around above us when we were going to bed, there was a groomsmen's supper going on in the banquet hall next to us (our cabin is attached to the lodge) we didn't hear any of that. Our overall experience was great and we will definitely stay there again! We would highly recommend Pine Cone Lodge to anyone who is looking for a relaxing trip!

Beautiful reconstruction of an historic lodge from 1915 incorporating the original wood and features. Brand new rooms. Very clean with every detail considered. The Brands are wonderful hosts happy to provide “a home away from home” on Big Sand Lake. Open year round. Great value!

Amazing. As our location for our Easter weekend family get together, this lodge far exceeded our expectations. We had plenty of space for each of our family groups. Because we are here off peak, the lodge was quiet and quite beautiful with a half frozen lake to view put the large living room windows. We brought groceries to cook all our meals and have the necessities to make home cooked meals. Wonderful.

Absolutely breathtaking! Pinecone Resort is truly a hidden gem right on the lake, and my friends and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect getaway. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the incredible craftsmanship and beautiful woodwork throughout the cabin-it felt both luxurious and cozy at the same time.
One of my favorite touches was the old newspaper clippings and stories showcasing the resort's renovations over the years. You can feel the history and love poured into this place, especially knowing it has been family-owned for generations. It's clear the owners don't just run a resort-they share a piece of their legacy, creating a space for others to make lasting memories.
The cabin itself was fully stocked with everything we needed and more, making our stay effortless and comfortable. Every detail was so well thought out, even the charming pinecone-themed décor that added the perfect rustic touch. The home was filled with warmth, character, and beautiful sentiments to the family's history.
If you're looking for a place that combines natural beauty, history, and heartfelt hospitality, Pinecone Resort is it.

Highly recommend! Not only did the space accommodate the group of 13 people I attended with, it had the best view looking onto the lake, it was VERY clean, and easy to find. I’m grateful for all the memories that were made here.

The lodge we stayed in was beautiful and had beautiful views and access of the lake. Large kitchen with plenty of storage. Great seating for families. The storage room had some baby supplies that people could use if needed. Everything was clean and ready for our stay!
